The Block recap: Terraces

Blockhead Meltdown in Final Week

The drama and frustration of renovation literally hit boiling point this week as the Blockheads raced to the finish line in the middle of one of Melbourne’s longest heatwaves.

But amidst the rubble and rumbles, what has emerged is one of the most spectacular developments the Block has ever seen.

While we wait to find out which team will take out the final $10,000 prize, let’s take a cue from our couples on how to turn an outdoor space into an entertaining oasis.

The big trick is to feature lighting in different areas of your courtyard or garden to create a sense of dimension and depth. Spotlights, such as our Sentinel Spotlight in Black used by Brad & Dale are a great way to highlight garden features such as foliage, water features or ornaments. You can also conceal a spike spot such as our Sentinel 12V Spike Spot in amongst plants and direct the light upwards to create an intriguing shadow effect.

Brad & Dale mixed it up by adding our Harbour 1 Light Adjustable Wall Spot, which complemented the industrial style with its vintage copper finish.

Inspired by the 40+ temperatures in which they were working, Alisa & Lysandra were canny enough to include our Typhoon Metal Blade Fan in Brushed Chrome with Stainless Steel blades in their outdoor terrace. Ceiling fans in undercover alfresco areas are a popular trend– even in cooler climates – as they create a resort style feeling in an outdoor entertaining space.

And remember, if you live in a coastal location, you’ll need to look for outdoor lighting that is 316 marine grade stainless steel, aluminium, or polycarbonate, to increase its resistance to the elements and durability.

Check out our new LEDlux Marine range for the latest looks in weather resistant outdoor lighting. And stay tuned as we join our Blockheads at the finish line!
